Unforgettable

Passage: Isaiah 49:1-16

Speaker: Brian Land

Series: Isaiah

Category: Grace Brevard

Even when it feels like God has forgotten and even forsaken us, the truth is that, from the very beginning God has planned and put into action His Son Jesus, the Great Rescuing Servant, to bring us out of slavery and into His glorious Home because of his incomprehensible power, compassion and care. Being rescued and set free, we are now empowered to go out to others who are in despair to call them to the Light.

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:

  1. How have you felt forgotten by God..by others? What is that like?
  2. How is being forsaken even worse (like what Judas did)?
  3. Why do we often accuse God of forgetting and forsaking (49:14)?
  4. How is reality the exact opposite...WE are the ones that have forgotten and forsaken GOD?
    1. (Revelation 2:4: But I have this against you, that you have abandoned the love you had at first.)
    2. The Solution God planned from the beginning gets revealed in stunning accuracy in 49:1-12. This is called The Servant Song and is JESUS talking through Isaiah about who he was (will be) and what he will do.
  5. Notice some of these prophecies:
    1. “from the womb” - Jesus was fully human and fully God
    2. “he named my name” (Luke 1:31...”call him Jesus”)
    3. “mouth like a sharp sword” (Rev. 1:16)
    4. Like in 49:4, Jesus felt like his labor might be in vain, but trusted that the Father would make it fruitful (“not  my will but yours be done”)
    5. See how 49:7 parallels Philippians 2:1-11
  6. There are two main responses to His rescue:
    1. How do we do that?
    1. 49:8 - Joining him in His global rescue-operation.
    2. 49:13 - Praising Him for what He has done.
  7. How is it that the level of our thankful praise is equal to how much we realize the extent of our rescue, and the glory of our rescuer?
  8. How does this passage show a more “maternal” side of God; his compassion and tender care for his children. How does that feel to you? How does it complement God’s more “paternal” side?
  9. How does being told that the Lord has unforgettable compassion for you sync with your heart? That he has “engraved you on the palms of my hands”?
