Prayer: In the Darkness

Passage: Psalms 13:1-6

Speaker: Brian Land

Series: The Art of Prayer

Category: Grace Brevard

Keywords: praise, hope, fear, doubt, dark, despair

We all find ourselves surrounded by darkness, despair and doubt, wondering where God is and why He won't "fix" this situation (or why he let it happen in the first place...or if He's even there at all). Psalm 13 is a beautifully honest, authentic and hopeful prayer from David, beginning with utter despair, moving to a plea for help, and ending in praise. This can also be our prayer in the dark times as we look to how Jesus also waded through these treacherous waters, coming out the other side with a resurrection-victory as he done all that is necessary to make even our dark times come "untrue".

Ps 13
How long, O LORD? Will you forget me forever?
How long will you hide your face from me?
2 How long must I take counsel in my soul
and have sorrow in my heart all the day?
How long shall my enemy be exalted over me?

3 Consider and answer me, O LORD my God;
light up my eyes, lest I sleep the sleep of death,
4 lest my enemy say, “I have prevailed over him,”
lest my foes rejoice because I am shaken.

5 But I have trusted in your steadfast love;
my heart shall rejoice in your salvation.
6 I will sing to the LORD,
because he has dealt bountifully with me.
