    Passage: 1 Peter 2:9-12

    Speaker: Brian Land

    Series: 1 Peter

    Category: Grace Brevard

Keywords: love, value, identity, mercy, behavior, passions, royalty

We live out of who we believe we are. In our brokenness we are exiles from God, left alone to fend for ourselves. But the Lord has sought out us feral, lonely, insecure, savage humans in order to bring us home and give us a new name, a new family, a new identity, a new purpose. Out of this renewed image we organically and evangelistically express our love to God through worship and obedience.

    QUOTES:

    • We live with the undertow of sadness and dread. We are braced for that feeling, like seeing callous hands rummaging in a private drawer where a delicate, tangled identity is stored and pulling at the threads. It feels like exile. Rafael Behr
    • The best argument for Christianity is Christians: their joy, their certainty, their completeness. But the strongest argument against Christianity is also Christians--when they are sombre and joyless, when they are self-righteous and smug in complacent consecration, when they are narrow and repressive, then Christianity dies a thousand deaths. But, though it is just to condemn some Christians for these things, perhaps, after all, it is not just, though very easy, to condemn Christianity itself for them. Indeed, there are impressive indications that the positive quality of joy is in Christianity--and possibly nowhere else. If that were certain, it would be proof of a very high order. Sheldon Vanauken
    • It's prevalent now for Americans to narrate life as if everything is against them & they are the hero who must throw off every hater, challenger, critic, & negative naysayer. This is absurd, but it's disturbing to see some preachers distort Xianity to go along w/ this narrative. Derek Radney
