Hebrews: The Majestic Christ

Passage: Hebrews 1:1-3

Speaker: Brian Land

Series: Hebrews: Fulfilled in Christ

Category: Grace Brevard

Keywords: jesus, christ, king, prophet, priest

The Gospel is one gloriously consistent story of God pursuing us, His Wayward Bride. In ancient times he used the prophets (who would speak to us on His behalf), priests (who would petition God on our behalf), and kings (who were supposed to provide and protect). All of these were foreshadowers of Christ, the ultimate Prophet, Priest and King. Jesus is God Himself who came to make all things right and bring us back home to the Father.

Series Summary:
The Book of Hebrews paints the clearest biblical picture of Who Jesus is, What Jesus has done, and how He offers impossibly glorious Hope within every single facet of life. The author cascades from eternity past to eternity future, revealing how everything points to Christ as our great Prophet, Priest and King; how everything from the beginning of time has led up to Him and is fulfilled in Him, culminating in His death and resurrection. Today we have the privilege to see and trust backwards at the same Christ to whom the Old Testament saints looked forward. The same Gospel Hope threads through all time: Jesus is the ultimate and final sacrifice which covers over our sins as the True Passover Lamb; Jesus is the Word of God made flesh; Jesus is The Great and Final Shepherd as he prays for, guides and comforts; Jesus is the Final and Eternal King of Kings and Lord of Lords, ushering in the peace we all long for; Jesus fulfills every ancient foreshadowing while also fulfilling every heart that trusts in Him. Everything then, everything now and everything within us points to the eternal redeeming Christ, drawing us to perpetually and worshipfully look to Jesus, “the author and perfecter of our faith.”

Main Passage: Hebrews 1:1-3
1:1 Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, 2 but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world. 3 He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high...
