Hebrews: The God of Peace

Passage: Hebrews 13:20-25

Speaker: Brian Land

Series: Hebrews: Fulfilled in Christ

Category: Grace Brevard

Keywords: peace

We all live in the chaos of this world: broken relationships, bodies, hearts and minds. We deeply long for peace, which is exactly what Jesus came to give us by being broken on the cross, thus uniting us with the Lord and one another. He doesn't promise that "peaceful, easy feeling" but he promises that he HAS bought Peace on our behalf and is bringing us into his eternal peace.

CENTRAL PASSAGE

Heb 13
20 Now may the God of peace who brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, the great shepherd of the sheep, by the blood of the eternal covenant, 21 equip you with everything good that you may do his will, working in us that which is pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.

22 I appeal to you, brothers, bear with my word of exhortation, for I have written to you briefly. 23 You should know that our brother Timothy has been released, with whom I shall see you if he comes soon. 24 Greet all your leaders and all the saints. Those who come from Italy send you greetings. 25 Grace be with all of you.

SERMON DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

  • What is disrupting your peace today?
  • How do you deal with that?
    • Which resonates with you...”control”, ”succumb” or “plead”?
  • How is Hebrews (and all that Jesus is “better than”) really a book about peace?
  • Talk about the larger definition of peace scripture has. How do we normally define it in our lives? What is peace the absence of AND the presence of?
  • Think about the “peacelessness” of the disciples in the boat during the storm...what were they accusing Jesus of? How do we do that same thing?
    • What was Jesus’ double response? (He did something and said something)
  • What kinds (in what areas of life) of Peace did Jesus come to give?
    • How did the cross (Colossians 1:19-20) bring peace? What kind?
  • Talk about how eternity is the fullness of peace...the “restoration of all things”. How is that the summation of the Peace we all deeply want/need today?
