Hebrews: Great High Priest

Passage: Hebrews 4:14-16

Speaker: Sam Hodge

Series: Hebrews: Fulfilled in Christ

Category: Grace Brevard

Keywords: grace, sacrifice, holy, priest, confidence, throne

God ordained priests in the Old Testament as his human liaisons to bring His people out of their sins and into His love. But these priests were weak humans who were as prone to failure as any of us. And so the Father sent His Son Jesus as the Great High Priest who entered into our weakness but was without sin; and instead of offering perpetual sacrifices He offered himself as THE sacrifice, which allows (even invites) us to come straight into the Father's presence with total confidence because all believers have been fully purified by the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross.

14 Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. 15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. 16 Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
