Free Children of God

Free Children of God

Passage: Galatians 3:26-4:7

Speaker: Brian Land

Series: Galatians

Category: Grace Brevard

Keywords: adoption, alone, grace, sonship

In our lonely, rebellious and futile attempt to find and create self-identity and self-value, God sent his Son of perfect value to exchange our orphan-ness with his Sonship. Because of Jesus, we are adopted out of desperate isolation and into his royal family where we are objectively and securely wrapped up into his loving arms, given the real presence of His Spirit inside of us and declared to be unified men and women of freedom, love, worth and purpose.

Prayer: Kingdom (adapted from The Valley of Vision)

O Spirit of God

Give us faith to walk the separated life with firm and brave step.

Teach us to adore and magnify Christ with the music of heaven.

We do not crouch at Thy feet as a slave before a tyrant,

But exalt before Thee as a child with a Father.

Give us power to exercise sonship in all our actions.

Preserve us from the intoxication that comes with false prosperity;

Sober with the joy that comes solely from Thee.

Lead us ever onward in Your everlasting kingdom,

Working in us the beauty of Christ

Making known His grace to all.

Central Text: Galatians 3:26 - 4:7 ESV

26 for in Christ Jesus you are all sons of God, through faith. 27 For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. 28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. 29 And if you are Christ's, then you are Abraham's offspring, heirs according to promise. 4 I mean that the heir, as long as he is a child, is no different from a slave, though he is the owner of everything, 2 but he is under guardians and managers until the date set by his father.3 In the same way we also, when we were children, were enslaved to the elementary principles of the world. 4 But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, 5 to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons. 6 And because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, “Abba! Father!” 7 So you are no longer a slave, but a son, and if a son, then an heir through God.
