Encounters: Palm Sunday (Click here for Resources)

Passage: Matthew 21:1-11

Speaker: Brian Land

Series: Encounters with Jesus

Category: Grace Brevard

Keywords: worship, praise, king, servant, ruler

Jesus is a living seeming-oxymoron: humbly-powerful; servant-king; man-God; meek-ruler; dying-immortal. Here we see the King of the Universe making the ultimate King entrance like a conquering king would, but he is riding humbly on a donkey, and willingly riding into the hands of those who are scheming to murder him. As the crowds thought that they were ushering in a valliant ruler, they were actually paving the way for Jesus’ crucifixtion and, unwittingly, to the means for their own True Victory: over sin, fear and death. This type of spectacle naturally raised a lot of questions, the central one that every person must ask: “Who is Jesus?”
